In this ongoing Charlotte Mason inspired class, students will observe and draw an animal while listening to the "Burgess Animal Book" and narrating the chapter. Then, we will learn more about the animal and its animal classification.

Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
  • Learners will practice observation and narration skills while drawing an animal and listening to a chapter of "The Burgess Animal Book for Children."
I have taught science and agriculture for many years as a high school teacher and now as a homeschool parent. I have always loved nature, but I became more passionate about nature study when I became a certified naturalist.
REQUIRED: Please bring the following materials to class:
Nature journal (or plain paper for drawing animals)
Pencil
Colored pencils, markers, crayons, or other art supplies to draw animals
The primary source for this class is "The Burgess Animal Book for Children." Learners are not required to have a copy of this book; however you may read it for free on Project Gutenberg at https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/2441. I will also show pictures of animals and sometimes show short videos of animals.
