5 in-class hoursClass Experience
This class is for students seeking private one on one instruction time with just the student and the teacher. Each week will begin with the teacher giving the student clues so they can guess which animal they will be learning about. Next, the teacher will give the student a chance to share about an animal. This gives the student a chance to practice talking about animals and researching facts. Then, the teacher will teach scientific details about the animal of the week. The students will learn about the animal's body characteristics such as its body parts and covering (fur, feathers, scales, skin). We will classify the animal as a mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian, or fish. We will also learn about the life cycle of the animal. We will discuss the features of its habitat. We will also discuss the animal's diet and learn about vocabulary words like prey and predators. Each week students will create an "animal web" to record their animal facts. Students may write or draw pictures of the facts learned. The animal web is a visual organizer on paper that helps students record and remember what they learn in class. Students will create the web during class as we learn about each fact. These pages will be used to create an "Animal Adventures" book of the length of the course. The animals we will learn each week are listed below. Week 1: Lynxes Week 2: Pandas Week 3: Frogs Week 4: Dolphins Week 5: Flamingos Week 6: Sharks Week 7: Wolves Week 8: Alligators Week 9: Cheetahs Week 10: Meerkats
