Class Experience

During this interactive class, students will learn about the animals unique to the Australian Outback. Animals included are koalas, kangaroos, crocodiles, kookaburras, and the platypus. We will spend time learning about each individual animal's characteristics and why they are best suited for life in the Australian Outback. Students will be encouraged to ask questions about each animal before moving on to the next topic. Towards the end of the class, students will make their very own koala craft. As the teacher, I will be guiding the students on how to create their own koala using oil pastels.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Shannon. My favorite thing to do is read & write. I am also passionate about animals and conservation. I spend most of my time at the Zoo around animals or at home working on a new writing project. I especially love koalas and polar bears. As a teacher I want to inspire students to desire to learn more and to pursue their own passions.

My classes will be focused on studying different animals in nature as well as creative writing skills. I even have some fun classes like Monopoly strategies. I have a degree in Biochemistry and Biology. Currently I teach zoology classes centered around conservation messages to encourage kids to take care of the planet by making good choices at home. Animal conservation teaches students to be mindful of others that they share the planet with.

When I'm not teaching I love a good board game! In fact a hobby of mine is collecting Monopoly boards!
