DESCRIPTION: In this on-going course learners will dive deep into the world of Greek and Roman mythology. It will focus on the ancient Greek and Roman gods by reading the myths of Ancient Greece and Rome that originate from these cultures. Through a lecture and discussion format of classes, each week students will be introduced to the Titians, the twelve Olympian gods, other minor but well-known gods, and the famous myths that tell their stories. I am fascinated by the Greco-Roman world; its history, literature, culture, and languages. I have an M.A. in Classics and have taught Roman history, as well as other Classics related subjects, to a range of ages and skill levels online and in a traditional classroom. This course is meant to be fun! It will incorporate a lot of literature but also a lot of material culture from the classical world.
Weekly discussion questions will be provided to help learners practice their critical thinking and reading skills and help facilitate the in-class discussion.
All material will be provided in the classroom.
Progress reports and evaluations are available upon request.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
External Resources: No passwords or logins are required to use any external resources. Art: The Greeks and Romans artistically admired the human form, as result a lot of material culture from ancient Rome and Greece contains nudity. Images that contain what might be considered "lude behavior" will not be included.
