CLASS OVERVIEW: In this course we will be learning about Ancient History through the game of Minecraft. Ancient History shows us why the world around us is the way that it is. It may have been thousands of years ago but it is still very relevant today. How did we get here? Where do we go now? These are big questions that need big answers. History is who we are and why we are the way we are. Earth is more connected than ever before. “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots”. We need to understand each other. The Egyptians gave us writing that most of us use every day. The Greeks gave us our philosophy and government. The Babylonians gave us the laws that we have to follow. The Romans, well, what didn't the Romans do for us? The Chinese gave us countless inventions that we take for granted every day. We will take a tour of a different periods of history through the game of Minecraft. We will visit a new civilization and time period each lesson. We will experience Ancient History like never before! During this course, we will explore the World: 7-13 November: The Agricultural Revolution 14-20 November: Ancient Egypt 21-27 November: Ancient Greece 28 November-4 December: Ancient Babylon 5-11 December: Ancient China 12-18 December: The Celts 19-25 December: Ancient Rome 26 December-1 January: Ancient Japan 2-8 January: The Punic Wars 9-15 January: Pompeii 16-22 January: Byzantium Classes will then cycle back to the beginning History should not just be kept in the history books. #academic
Learning Goals
Over this course, we will be using Minecraft in each lesson. At the start of each class, students will be introduced to a new world within Minecraft. They will be guided through this world by me. Throughout our tour, we will learn about the people who lived here. We will learn about their cities, religions, cultures, languages and day to day life. To finish it off, we will build a monument to each civilization as a team. History will come alive in the digital world of Minecraft.
We will travel throughout time and around the World. Who are we? What comes next? “We are not makers of history. We are made by history”. This is History in the Making.
