Class experience
US Grade 7 - 9
Have you ever wondered why Greek myths are so, well, weird? Or why it was such a big deal when Julius Caesar was killed on the Ides of March? These questions and many more will be part of our readings and discussions in this introduction to Ancient Greek and Roman History course. I absolutely LOVE the cultures of these two ancient civilizations, and I enjoy bringing the people of Greece and Rome to life for my students. It's so easy to get lost in the dates and names of history, and to forget...
Students will leave this course with a solid understanding of the highlights and chronology of Ancient Greek and Roman history, and a good bit of detail on the more influential figures of those cultures (e.g. Pericles, Alexander, Julius Caesar, Augustus).
Homework Offered
Students will read primary source materials written by the ancient Greek and Roman authors. These materials will be available in the Classroom as web links.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
I do not collect or grade work on Outschool classes, except upon request of parents/guardians. If you wish to add a bit more rigor to this course for your student, I am always happy to provide additional assignments, as well as feedback on those assignments if desired. Please feel free to reach out and we can discuss options to tailor the course to your needs.Grades Offered
I will post a list of recommended books in the Classroom for enrolled learners. These books are not required, nor does purchase of the materials benefit me in any way.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Greek and Roman history involves discussions of battles, deaths (including murders and suicides, wars and natural deaths), mythical monsters, betrayal, deceit, illegal activity, and other wild events. I strive to teach the content with age-appropriate language, and at the same time I do not water down the material for my students; I attempt to present the material with as much authenticity as possible.
I will provide online links to primary source readings as needed throughout the course - check the Classroom discussion pages frequently for updates!
