Class Experience

In this class we will go over several myths together in class, reading them together and then discussing them.

Here are several themes we will watch for as we go over the stories:

- How do the flood stories reflect the cultures' ideas of creation?
- What do the flood stories say about the cultures' ideas of the role of humans in the universe?
- Are there ways the flood stories could be used to justify ancient governments or kings?

We will talk about flood myths from ancient China, Indonesia and around the Mediterranean. The Biblical flood story will be one of the stories discussed. We will be discussing it in a secular manner, treating it as an ancient myth reflecting the ideas and beliefs of an ancient people.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a background in political studies and theology, both of which involve asking "what are the implications of this?" I'm now a homeschooling mother and I throw myself into reading numerous books and dozens of academic papers on any topic I teach.
