Class Experience

Everyone knows the ancient Egyptians used hieroglyphs to write messages on their walls. But did you know they used a hieroglyphic system to do math too? 

Students will learn how to read, write and use the ancient Egyptian mathematical system to solve problems. 

Students should already know how to add, subtract, multiple and divide. 

Our lesson includes:
What are symbols and hieroglyphs?
How were numbers represented in hieroglyphs?
What did the ancient Egyptians use their numbers for?
How was the Egyptian numbers developed and why is it important?
How do you complete addition, subtract, division and multiplication problems using their system?

Student will be able to practice their new skills in the classroom.

Teacher will provide worksheets for the students to use in class. Parents should print these off before class begins.

Allison Bruning is a certified elementary teacher from Texas. She has over fifteen years of teaching experience in private and public schools. Her hobbies include writing, reading, hiking, camping and spending time with her family.
