Welcome to your first steps in learning how to write hieroglyphics! This five-thousand-year-old art form will be explained in its linguistic and historical context and learners will learn how to write many of the most common hieroglyphs. By the end of this course, they will be able to write their names in hieroglyphics, and likely will want to write the names of the rest of their family, too! Week One: This week is largely an introductory lecture, teaching about how hieroglyphs function in writing language and their historical context Week Two: This week, we start writing hieroglyphs! With guidance from Ms. Bender and our textbook, students will practice writing the "alphabetic" hieroglyphs. Week Three: This week, students will learn about the conventions regarding the way hieroglyphs are arranged and will practice writing their names and decoding names of others written in hieroglyphs.
