Come and explore Egypt in the class! Students will read Flat Stanley’s Worldwide Adventures: The Great Egyptian Grave Robbery by Jeff Brown. Each week we will be learning more about Egypt by completing science, art, and/or history projects. This book is intended for grades 2-3, 650L, or Guided Reading Level N. Students will read Flat Stanley’s Worldwide Adventures: The Great Egyptian Grave Robbery by Jeff Brown. Students will complete comprehension questions while reading. Students will actively participate in discussion each week. Students will learn about ancient Egypt while completing science, art, and history projects.
I have a Masters in Education degree from Azusa Pacific University. I have a current teaching credential to teach all K-8 subjects, Reading Endorsement, K-12 music, and K-12 ESL. I have taken additional workshops on how to teach reading and writing to elementary students. I have taught reading and writing in public schools, private schools, and at homeschool co-ops over the past 20 years.
Students will read one chapter each week from the book Flat Stanley’s Worldwide Adventures: The Great Egyptian Grave Robbery by Jeff Brown. Students will also answer 7 comprehension questions each week as they are reading through the chapter. Students will need to gather a few materials to bring to class each week. The comprehension questions will be posted each week in our classroom as well as a reminder of what to bring to class for the week.
Students will need to bring supplies to each class. A reminder will be posted in the classroom each week. Week 1: printout, pencil Week 2: brown paper bag, white glue, water, wax paper, bowl, stir stick Week 3: paper plate, scissors, markers Week 4: print out, air drying clay, salt dough, or playdough, paintbrush, rolling pin Week 5: toothpicks, small marshmallows Week 6: 2 fresh apples, 1 ¼ cups salt, 1 ¼ cups epsom salt, 1 ¼ cups baking soda, apple cutter or knife or have apples cut, 8 paper or plastic cups, large mixing bowl, measuring cup ½ and ¼ cup, paper, pencil Week 7: printout, markers Week 8: cardboard, camel cut out, straw, scissors, tape, string, watercolors, white paper, pencil Week 9: shrinky dink paper or plastic #6, sharpies, hole punch, scissors, wax paper Week 10: cardboard tube, masking tape, gold paint, paintbrush, sharpies
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Student will be assessed informally in the discussions and extension activities. Students will turn in comprehension questions to get graded.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
This book is about ancient Egypt and grave robbers. Parents should preview the book to see if it is appropriate for their child.
