This is a whirlwind class designed to give students an overview of the historical development of China. The class will focus on three primary topics: the successive rise and fall of imperial dynasties and the political structures that both bolstered and plagued them for centuries; the various philosophical and religious traditions that continue to define China today; and the many technological developments that originated in China during this period before spreading to the West. Each topic will be handled in its own 30-minute block, the last 5-minutes of which will be allotted for student questions. Slides from the class will be posted prior to the live meeting for students to view in advance or save for review afterward, if they wish.
