Ancient China Geography
This is a one time class that is an intro to ancient China and the land they settled on. It will help students to understand why the people of ancient China settled where they did, and why river systems were important to ancient people.

US Grade 5 - 8
This class is a one time class about the geography of ancient China. First, the teacher will show a video about the geography and landforms that exist in ancient China. Students will take notes and fill in the blanks as they watch the video. Students will also have a discussion about what geographic features that kept ancient China safe and isolated from the rest of the world at the time once the video is over. Next, teacher will guide students will complete a geography activity where they use Google My Maps to pin locations on the map, and add a description and picture for each location. This activity will help students to see the significant landforms and geographic features of China, viewing them as if they were there!
Learning Goals
Students will learn why people chose to settle in ancient China. They will also get inspired about why humans would choose a certain place to live and what resources they would need in order to survive in an ancient area.

We will use Youtube to watch a video on the beginnings of ancient China. This video covers four topics: setting the stage, the geography of China, river systems, and environmental challenges. The video demonstrates the successes and challenges of the lives of the ancient Chinese people who settled there. Students will take notes on the four topics as they watch. Next, students will use Google My Maps which is a platform to learn geography. It allows students to pin locations on a map, and add images and descriptions for that location so that they can visualize what it would be like to visit each particular location. MyMaps also allows students to see how big the world is, and what life might look like in a place other than where they live.
