Anatomy Semester: Major Body Systems (Ages 13-17)
Class experience
US Grade 8 - 11
(This class also runs as a summer camp.) In this 12-week online course, students will study anatomy by learning about the 12 major body systems. Each week, we will learn about each system's individual components, function, and how it works. We will also learn about common major disorders that afflict each system and medical professionals who help correct these disorders. Class members will meet two times per week. The first meeting of each week will be lecture-style (with plentiful...
Students will establish a strong understanding of the 12 major systems that make up the human body.
I am a recent graduate in Biomedical Science and plan to pursue graduate studies in Genetic Counseling. While I have recently completed 4 college-level anatomy classes and labs, I restrict my content to basic anatomy only. However, my background allows me to answer the difficult or complex questions that often arise.
Homework Offered
Students will be asked to complete a short "research project" each week. The purpose of this project is to encourage curiosity and asking questions in the study of science and learn how to research specific topics in anatomy. Students will be asked to "present their research" to the class or share what they learned for 1-2 minutes.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
Students will need access to an internet search engine (such as Google) or books on anatomy to complete their research projects.
Please note that the Reproductive System will be studied in Week 10. It is an important part of human anatomy and reproduction is essential to the survival all living things. We will study both the male and female reproductive systems. This topic will be approached with maturity and an academic focus. Jokes or inappropriate comments will not be tolerated. Please contact me if you have any specific questions about how I will approach this topic, or if you wish for additional accommodations to be made for your student in Week 10. I will offer an alternate assignment if you wish for your student to be exempt from class that week.
