Class Experience

In this course, we will read and discuss the work of well-known poets such as Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Billy Collins, and Joy Harjo. Additionally, students will create and share their poems with the class, which will allow them to practice giving short presentations and reading aloud. Parents can find a complete list of poems and poets that learners will read and discuss during class under the "Parental Guidance" section of this listing.

Class discussions will focus on the content, form, and literary devices used in the poems. The class will be structured to have 20 minutes of discussion and lecture about the poems, and 35 minutes of workshop. I will teach the course by leading and encouraging dialogue that will allow students to learn how to analyze poetry and to be comfortable engaging with it. My teaching style focuses on accessibility and engagement.

Learners will interact with other students and me during weekly class through discussion, lecture, and creative literary exercises (such as writing collaborative poems). To benefit from this course, all students need is a desire to read and discuss poetry, write creatively, and engage with others who want to do the same!
