In this class, we will read, discuss, and analyze the short story, "The Lady or the Tiger" by Frank Stockton and the poem, "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost. As we read the short story and poem, I will ask analytical questions, model note-taking, and explain how to find text evidence. We will focus on inferences, mood, tone, theme, and symbolism. Students will practice analyzing a short story and poem as they read. They will also practice using text evidence to write a formal response and essay.
Students will have some independent reading to do after the first class. They will have a formal paragraph to write after the second class, and a second paragraph or an essay to write and submit to me after the third class.
Students will need to bring paper and a writing utensil to class for activities and notes.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will assess students on their ability to prove their assertions through examples and quotes from the story and poem.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
I will provide a copy of the story, "The Lady or the Tiger" and the poem, "The Road Not Taken."
