An Ode to Someone Special- Poem Gift
Class experience
US Grade 3 - 5
In this combination poetry and craft class, students will draft an ode and then turn it into a giftable accordion slat book. We begin class by learning where odes originated and what some features of an ode are. We will also read a sample ode. Next, students will use a graphic organizer to draft a personalized ode to one of their parents. Then students will transfer their draft into a final version and will create an accordion slat book with the poem inside. If we have additional time,...
Students will identify the features of an ode. Students will write their own ode on a specific subject. Students will make an accordion slat book.
This is a great student project because the finished product makes a wonderful keepsake! It's also a perfect lesson for teaching students that poetry doesn't need to be difficult or complicated.
