Overview/Challenge During this workshop, students will construct a fun, simple (not really, but with instruction, it seems that way) Robot. Students will study Robotics by building a simple robot. They will learn Robotics components, gears, motors, and electricity. All workshops are fun and hands-on. Students will review the engineering design methodology. The last class may be shorter than one hour, depending on your student's progress. **** 7-year-olds may require some help from parents ============================================================================================== This workshop will start with a quick class review and a teacher introduction. Then, all students will introduce themselves, stating their first name, grade, age, and country. This workshop will be divided into daily “Look, Listen, and Learn (LL&L)” sections that last from two to ten minutes. The LL&L is a visual/audio presentation about the engineering concepts discussed during the class or pictures of the build. Students will construct a Basic Concepts Project in the first class. This project will consist of students studying in detail how the gearbox works. Assisting students in honing their problem-solving abilities and cultivating critical thinking skills is made effortless through the basic concepts project. In addition, students will gain some confidence in their construction ability upon completing this project. After the basic concept project, students will construct their spider robot. ============================================================================================== Class 1: Electricity and Gears – Basic Concepts 10 minutes - Introduction 20 minutes - First, the students will have a brief discussion on electricity generation, and then we will review the lesson by utilizing an online document (LLL). 20 minutes - Students will learn about the Spider Robots circuits using wires, light, battery, motor, and switch. Class 2: 15 minutes - The students will be educated on Robotics, engage in discussions about the practical uses of robots, and watch a short video. 5 minutes - Students will briefly review the lesson using an online document (LLL) 30 minutes - Through hands-on construction, students will gain knowledge as they build the gearbox and spider abdomen. Class 3: 5 minutes - Students will briefly review the lesson using an online document (LLL) 30 minutes - Students will acquire knowledge through hands-on construction while assembling spider joints and legs. Class 4: 5 minutes - Students will briefly review the lesson using an online document (LLL) 45 minutes - As students put on the legs and complete the project, they will acquire knowledge through hands-on construction and then proceed to test it. *Schedule is subject to change based on the pace of class.................................

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Alabama
Greetings, my name is Monica Burch, and I have a degree in Engineering. However, I have been teaching for over two decades now. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from The University of Alabama, where I specialized in Power. During my college years, I worked with reputable companies such as Gulf Power, Salt River Project, and Colorado UTE for Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). Later on, I pursued a career in software engineering and worked with notable companies like Dow Jones and Merrill Lynch.
One winter day, I picked up my oldest son from a play date. He had spent the whole day playing video games indoors due to the cold weather. As a mother, I knew it was not easy to entertain two active boys during such weather conditions. However, I felt there was a better way for them to spend their time. This led me to start ConstructU in 2003. ConstructU aims to provide educational enrichment to children by exposing them to science, engineering, and technology while introducing mathematical concepts.
