Class Experience

Students will learn how bioarchaeologists examine a skeleton and determine:
-malnutrition and physical stress
-how an individual died and if death was caused by disease or violence
I graduated with a degree in archaeology and my speciality during college was bioarchaeology. I was mentored during my junior and senior year of college by a professional bioarchaeologist. For my final year of college, I was a lab assistant for the bioarchaeological labs at Western Kentucky University and examined skeletons that had been excavated from ancient Native American sites in Mammoth Cave National Park. I also traveled to northern China to work on an archaeological dig and was given the opportunity to examine skeletons that had been excavated at the site.
35 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
