Homework is completely optional, but learners will gain some useful starting points and ideas of how to be able to go away and create their own mini mime performance to show family and friends if they wish.

Class Experience

'Mime is the art of creating the illusion of reality'- Claude Kipnis

Have you ever watched someone performing mime and wondered how do they do that?,

Are you looking for an exciting new skill for a talent show piece or to amaze friends and family?

Or do you simply want to learn how to create the ‘magic’ of mime?

In this one-time acting class, you will learn what mime is and the very first starting points of how to perform it. From what ‘placing’ is, to how to show an audience where invisible objects are, and the dynamics (height, width, depth, weight) of an invisible box.

Don’t worry you don’t need any prior mime, or even acting/performing experience, to take part in this fun, active class.

Costumes and white gloves are always welcome too, but they are not a necessary requirement.

The class will start with an especially created warm-up (and an explanation about why it is still important to warm up, even though we are not interacting with real objects), before learners will learn how to show there are invisible, imaginary objects right in front of them.

*I also offer an adaptation of this class as a one-to-one private class for extra focused learning, and we can discuss the learner's mime persona, costume and work through some performance ideas if you would like to. Please message me with a request for a private class time.

I look forward to seeing you in class.............and don’t forget to bring your invisible, imaginary boxes with you too!

**I love teaching on Outschool and fully prepare to be ready to teach every class I offer. So classes will go ahead whether they are full, half full, quarter full, or have just one learner (who gets the benefit of a one-on-one lesson for a fraction of the cost)!**
Learning Goals
There will be lots of opportunities to share these newly developing mime skills throughout the class, and receive encouraging feedback from myself, Mrs. T, as your teacher/instructor, and your fellow classmates.

*As with all Stage Skills classes, on the completion of this class parents can contact me to request a personalised, printable certificate. Although this isn’t a formal qualification, it can look very good on a wall or in an achievement folder (especially if you collect the whole Stage Skills series) but can also be useful to show to Performing Arts settings, for auditions, or to help learners create an actor’s resume.

I have taken many workshops in this skill and I have a real passion for researching more and perfecting my craft. I have taught in-person group classes and love seeing learners develop a new passion or polish existing skills.

I am a fully qualified teacher (BAPA, PGCE) with 16+ years of experience teaching Drama (and some Music, PSHCE, and English) to 11 to 15 years olds and Performing Arts to 16 to 18 year olds in bricks and mortar schools, where I currently still teach part-time, including running small group and 1:1 confidence building  workshops. I also have many years of experience leading community workshop schemes (like create a play in a week) and local drama groups for ages 4 to 16.

As a professional actress, I've performed to children from ages 2-14 in theatres, arts centres, social clubs, historical properties,  nurseries, and schools. Playing roles such as the Gingerbread man and a tortoise, to a wartime headmistress and Queen Elizabeth the first! With lots of Q & A and interactive workshops along the way.

I then branched into presenting (live, events, radio, some TV, and for holiday companies across Europe) including some Voiceover work. I currently create and present drama and presenter tuition videos and have a regular podcast.

I have produced and directed many productions (musicals and plays) as well, including some I have written myself.
