Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
Calling all animal lovers! This fun class will be social and interactive, with learners reading together, discussing animal facts, and learning from each other. The focus of this class is on letter sounds, basic literacy, and number sense, but many other preschool foundational skills will be covered, including: mathematics concepts, science inquiry, manners, taking turns, fine motor skills, and gross motor skills.

This class is designed for emergent readers who are learning their letters sounds, as well as children would would benefit from reviewing letter sounds and formation. This class is great for children who are ready for a little more than just basic instruction since we focus on the letter sounds, reading basic words, and hands-on math. Interactive optional worksheets, activities, and crafts will be provided for families wishing to practice more with the letter and skills like cutting and gluing at home.

Each week's classes will be a little different to keep interest high, but the structure of the classes will involve:
*Welcome song/goodbye song
*Calendar time
*A teacher-created non-fiction article with photographs for each letter and the animals that start with that letter
*Practice with letter formation and letter sounds. We will use modeling clay and white boards to practice creating letters.
*If the class is ready for more advanced literacy, we will work with combining sounds to make simple cvc words with word families and common sight words
*Games and songs or a basic craft
*Math concepts within ten and eventually teen numbers, patterns, graphing, sorting, and using number sense to solve problems
*Time for questions and social sharing with friends in class to build friendships and language skills

Students are expected to practice using good manners and treat each other respectfully we work on these emergent reading, math, and social skills together. This class is teacher-directed but there will be discussion and interaction as we learn, read, write, and have fun with math together! I like to keep students unmuted as much as possible to foster conversation but if there is excessive interrupting or background noise, students may need to be muted at times.

Students will need basic art supplies, materials for counting (like unifix cubes), a provided printable ten frame, a white board, and modeling clay.
