Students will be given a basic understanding of the core objectives of place value in First grade. In this course, we will touch on the areas of Number Sense, Mental Math, comparing numbers, composing and decomposing numbers and end with a fun mystery number party. Day 1: Number Sense: Students will discover the patterns in a hundreds chart. Day 2: Mental Math: Students will learn to add 10 more or less from a number using a hundreds chart. This is the extension of what patterns are seen on a hundreds chart, but week 1 is not necessary to join week 2. Day 3: Comparing numbers: Students will learn a fun way to compare numbers easily and quickly. Day 4: Composing and Decomposing numbers: Students will be challenged to look at numbers not as we always see them. Example 21 is 2 tens and 1 one but is is also 21 ones and 1 ten and 11 ones. Day 5: Addition Strategies: Basic strategies of 0, 1, 2, 3,4 as an addend Day 6:Addition Strategies: Making Tens and adding 9 Day 7: Addition Strategies: Doubles and Doubles plus 1 Day 8: Subtraction Strategies & Fact Families: Day 9:Problem Solving Strategies: Draw a Picture, Number Sentence and more. Day 10: More with Problem Solving Strategies: Making a Table, Making a List Day 11:Geometry: Identify Plane shapes (2D): Please print and cut items before class. (Items will be uploaded by January 3) Day 12: Geometry: Identify Space figures (3D): Please print and cut items before class. ( Items will be posted after the previous class.) Day 13: Money: Identify Coins and learn how to count them in groups. ( Information will be sent about this class ahead of time.) Day 14: Money: Problem solving with money. Day 15: Fractions: Identify and read them. Day 16: Problem Solving with Geometry, money and fractions. Day 17: Graphing Day 18: Graphing Day 19: Graphing Day 20:Mystery Number Party: Come enjoy a wrap up of the class by writing our own numbers riddles to try and stump members of the class. This is going to be a great time!
Learning Goals
Students will improve their place value knowledge at the first grade level through number sense, mental math, comparing numbers, composing and decomposing numbers. Then we will work on addition and subtraction strategies. Knowing facts will move us to problem solving strategies.

Hello and Welcome to my profile page! I am an elementary school teacher of 22 years. I have been an online teacher and a stay at home mom for 3 years. I have been married for 25 years and have 2 daughters ages 23 and 19. I also have a basset hound named Melody. I enjoy crafting with my Cricut, cooking/baking and road trips with the family.
I graduated from Texas State University with a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Specialization in Math. For 21 years I worked with Title I students. I worked with children that have Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, Special Ed accommodations and GT students. I was also a Girl Scout leader for several years for my daughters.
I am currently teaching online with VIPKID as an ESL teacher. It has been an awesome experience sharing the English Language with the students.
My hope as a teacher is to build a sense of belonging to a group, where students can express themselves in a safe space. I want students to feel they can take chances with their learning and ask the questions no one wants to ask.
My favorite color is purple. My bedroom growing up was lavender and my bridesmaids wore deep purple in my wedding.
