Class Experience

Each day in Critter Class - Reptiles we will spend 60 minutes exploring the incredible world of turtles, lizards, snakes, crocodilians and venomous reptiles! At the beginning of each class day, learners will watch the instructor feed the animals and learners will have Observation Time. At this time, we encourage learners to write about or draw what they are seeing. Is the Redfoot Tortoise eating it’s lettuce? Is the Leopard Gecko licking it’s eyeball?

After Feeding and Observation time, we will jump into the days’ lesson - talking about habitats, defense strategies, what they eat, who likes to eat them and how they reproduce. Learners are encouraged to ask questions and try to help other learners answer theirs! Finally, we will get a close-up look at the days’ animal for Handling Time! There will be live animals from all around the world for your learner to fall in love with! Of course class is always more fun when you have a friend, so learners are also encouraged to bring their own critter friends (stuffed or live) to introduce to everyone.

The blank Specimen Journal pdf can be printed out for daily use. There are also coloring pages for you to print out for your learner if they would like them! All pdf's are in the Welcome section.

Hello!

At the 𝐀𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, we love to engage students with a passionate and talented group of educators.

We bring the fascinating world of amphibians and reptiles to life with programs for ages 3-18.

Since 2014, we have been offering 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩, a full week of exploration into these amazing animals. We are very excited to offer this program and others on 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 to a global audience of animal enthusiasts. 

We focus on observation, fostering inquisitiveness, empowering children to discover their own answers, and inspiring conservation and environmental stewardship.

The Amphibian Foundation started as a family non-profit in Atlanta, GA USA. Founders Mark and Crystal Mandica wanted to confront the global amphibian extinction crisis head-on by developing conservation initiatives with partners, and providing educational programs which excite as well as educate children and adults alike.

Crystal is the 𝘋𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘌𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 at the Amphibian Foundation, as well as a middle school teacher at the Friends School of Atlanta. Mark is the 𝘌𝘹𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘋𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳 of the Amphibian Foundation, and a lecturer in Reptile and Amphibian Biology at Agnes Scott College.
