**Class Experience for an *Among Us* Social Group** **Class Overview:** Welcome to the *Among Us* Social Group! This class is designed to help young players build communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills while having fun playing the popular game *Among Us*. Throughout the course, students will learn the dynamics of the game, including strategies for being both an Impostor and a Crewmate, how to navigate social interaction and deception, and how to improve decision-making skills in high-stakes situations. **What will be taught?** - **Game Mechanics**: Understanding the basic rules, tasks, and mechanics of *Among Us*, including how to perform tasks as a Crewmate and sabotage as an Impostor. - **Roles & Strategy**: Strategies for both Crewmates and Impostors to communicate, collaborate, and deceive. This will include tips for *deception*, *investigation*, and *alibi-building*. - **Teamwork & Communication**: Effective ways to work with teammates to accomplish tasks and how to navigate discussions during "emergency meetings" to vote off potential Impostors. - **Critical Thinking**: How to observe player behavior and make decisions based on subtle clues. Students will also learn how to defend their position during discussions and vote out the Impostor using logic and observations. - **Sportsmanship & Group Interaction**: Maintaining good sportsmanship, handling frustration, and managing competition in a fun and friendly environment. **Topics Covered:** - **Basic Rules**: An overview of the *Among Us* game mechanics, such as Crewmates vs. Impostors, tasks, emergency meetings, and voting systems. - **Strategic Play**: Both Crewmates and Impostors will learn specific tips and tricks. Crewmates will learn how to track player movement and task completion, while Impostors will learn how to blend in, sabotage, and mislead others. - **Effective Communication**: How to communicate clearly and persuasively during meetings to share suspicions or defend oneself. - **Behavioral Cues**: Identifying subtle signs that may suggest whether a player is lying or acting suspiciously, including body language and communication patterns. - **Group Dynamics**: Emphasizing how to create a positive group environment while playing, fostering collaboration over competition. **Class Structure:** - **Introduction & Icebreaker** (15 minutes): Brief introduction to the game and a lighthearted icebreaker activity to help students get to know each other. - **Game Session** (30-45 minutes): Students will be split into groups (if applicable) and will engage in multiple rounds of *Among Us* (either in a virtual setting or through a connected game platform). - **Debrief & Strategy Discussion** (15-20 minutes): After each round, we will pause for a quick discussion on the game, focusing on what worked, what didn’t, and how strategies can be improved. This helps reinforce the lessons learned. - **Wrap-up and Tips for Next Time** (10 minutes): Summary of key takeaways from the class and providing additional strategies and resources for students to continue practicing on their own. **Teaching Style:** - **Interactive & Student-Centered**: I encourage a hands-on, interactive learning environment where students are actively engaged. The class is structured to be highly participatory, with plenty of opportunities for students to ask questions, share insights, and collaborate with one another. - **Game-Based Learning**: The game itself will serve as a primary teaching tool. Each round played will be followed by an analysis of decisions made, both in terms of gameplay and communication. This is a fun way to practice the strategies taught while keeping the class engaging. - **Discussion & Feedback**: I will provide real-time feedback during the game and in follow-up discussions. This will include pointers on how to improve strategic thinking and communication. **How Will You Teach?** - **Hands-On Gameplay**: Since *Among Us* is an interactive game, the class will revolve around live gameplay. Students will play together in groups, and I will guide them through the process of analyzing the game's events and making decisions based on in-game behavior and tactics. - **Strategy Breakdowns**: After each round of the game, we'll conduct a mini "strategy breakdown," where we'll discuss the critical decisions made by the group, including how players interacted, who was suspected, and whether any deceptive tactics were used successfully. - **Group Collaboration**: I will focus on creating opportunities for peer-to-peer collaboration. Students will work together to develop strategies and decide the best course of action in each game round. The aim is to make them think critically about their role in the game and how they contribute to group success. - **Use of Digital Tools**: Depending on the platform, I might use screen sharing (for virtual groups) to highlight specific game moments, such as voting patterns or sabotage actions, which will then be analyzed in real time. **How Much Will Learners Get to Interact with You?** - **Interactive Learning**: Learners will interact with me constantly throughout the class. During gameplay, I will be present to offer real-time tips and tricks and to help guide conversations during emergency meetings. - **Live Discussions**: After each round, we’ll engage in discussion sessions where I will help break down gameplay moments and provide constructive feedback. - **Q&A Sessions**: At any point, learners can ask questions, share strategies, or ask for help with anything they don’t understand. - **Personalized Coaching**: In smaller groups, I will be able to give more focused attention to individual learners, offering feedback on specific gameplay styles and offering tips tailored to their level. **Additional Details Parents Might Want to Know:** - **Safety & Moderation**: The class will be carefully moderated to ensure a safe and respectful environment. I will monitor all interactions and ensure that everyone is following good sportsmanship and the guidelines set for behavior. - **Technology Requirements**: For virtual classes, students will need access to a device with the *Among Us* game installed (available on PC, mobile, and certain consoles). A stable internet connection is also required to ensure smooth gameplay. - **Learning Outcomes**: By the end of the class, students will be able to confidently play *Among Us*, with enhanced skills in critical thinking, teamwork, and communication. They will also have a better understanding of how to play both as a Crewmate and an Impostor, learning not only game mechanics but also how to navigate social interactions and deception in the context of the game. This class is designed to be fun and engaging while promoting key life skills in an interactive, game-based setting.
