55 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Students will learn basic hand sewing skills by creating an Imposter plushie from the popular game, Among Us. We will use upcycled gloves. You know, that one "sus" glove that keeps floating in and out of the wash? We are a live class, so that we can learn to sew together and talk about everyone's favorite game. Students will learn sewing safety, how to thread a needle and tie a thread, how to build your sewing kit, and other beginning sewing skills. This class is also for intermediate sewers who perhaps have sewn plushies before and want to "up their game" and learn new strategies. I suggest students bring more than one imposter glove if they have intermediate sewing skills, that way they can make one for a friend. Everyone will learn something new, fun, and sustainable.
Learning Goals
Students will sew a plushie. Students will learn begining sewing skills including: how to thread a needle, how to tie thread, how to make a stitch, how to work with stuffing, how to build a sewing kit, and other useful and sustainable sewing tips. Intermediate sewers will be given additional tips and training to match their skill level.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
We will be using needles and scissors. Parental guidance is suggested for beginner sewers and younger learners.
Supply List
Required Supplies: 1) Scissors (Please, make sure your scissors are sharp. I recommend keeping a pair of metal scissors that you use exclusively for material and fabric only.) 2) Sewing Needles (Bring more than one just in case one breaks.) 3) A knit glove for the body and backpack 4) A light color fabric for the astronaut helmet (This would be a great time to use that extra "sus" sock that floats around.) 5) Stuffing (You can use cotton stuffing from the craft store, filling from worn out pillows, material left over from sewing projects, an old sock, really anything that will fill out your plushie imposter body.) 6) Thread (Matching thread is always a plus, but any thread will do.) Optional supplies: 7) Needle threader 8) Sewing marker or tailor's chalk 9) Quilter/magic clips 10) Pin cushion 11) Sewing box (This will help you stay organized. That way, all of your sewing supplies are in one safe place for the next class.) Above all, please, make sure that a parent or guardian has approved your use of socks and gloves for this project. We don't want to cut into any special garments that your Grandma knitted or crocheted special for you, or use your last pair of winter gloves and socks!
External Resources
