Class Experience

This class is for fluent Spanish speakers! No English is allowed in class except for translations. In this case learners will ask, ‘Come se dice ______?’. This class may run a few minutes later than the above. This will depend on what time the last game is started. I try to time the games perfectly but depending on how alert the ‘crewmates’ are, we may need a few more minutes to decipher who is guilty.

In this class, learners will play the game ‘Among Us’ in a supervised space (the teacher) within a private room. Learners must be able to understand Spanish quite well and be able to articulate themselves in Spanish.

How do you play ‘Among Us’?
-There are 5-10 people aboard a spaceship
-1-3 of them will be an ‘imposters’
-The ‘crew’ will be tasked with different challenges that will allow them to win the game
-Imposters are tasked with killing off crew mates as doing so will allow them, the imposters, to win the game
-Players must keep their eyes peeled for suspicious activities from other players in order to determine who the ‘imposter is’
-Players have the opportunity to ‘chat’ about their suspicions as well as ‘vote’ the imposters off
-If they guess correctly, the ‘Imposter’ is removed
-If they don’t the game goes on, the challenges continue, and the imposter continues to live.... among us

Are there any classroom specific rules?
-There must be at least 5 players to play
-The teacher is happy to be the 5th when only 4 learners are enrolled
-No English allowed!
-If there are siblings in class, separate devices are highly recommend in order to log into zoom(to reduce the chance of using English as crutches during class)
-Learner cameras must be on at all times (showing just your eyes/forehead is okay)

Sources
To play, you must download the free app 'Among Us' from any smartphone or device. Two devices per student is recommend. One to join the zoom class with and the other to play the game on. This will allow learners to see/listen to other players while playing on the second device freely.
