Class Experience

In this ongoing class, students will use their critical thinking and communication skills to play a murder mystery game, Among Us. There are two teams in this game, the crewmates trying to fix the ship and the impostor attempting to end their mission. The crewmates need to gather as much information as to lead them to the impostor and work as a team. The impostor needs to manage the flow of information to avoid suspicion.
The students will have the chance to play in a safe, private server with their peers. They will unmute during the voting time to voice their opinions and ask questions to devise a strategy. We will also talk in the lobby to discuss our previous round, some tips, and tricks. This class is very similar to the very successful one-time class Among Us Club, and it has been created in response to the students' request.
Learners need to have the free app installed on their phones or have purchased the game on their computer before the start of class. It is also important that the student has a good quality Internet as the game could crash otherwise.
The amazing thing about this game is that it challenges our decision-making under pressure and the assumptions we make, observation skills, as well as our ability to collaborate with others. It is great for young minds to develop good reasoning and debate skills while having fun; however, the student needs to already have a strong foundation in how to be respectful even if others disagree or during the excitement of the game in general.
We will have creative and investigative projects every month for the student to obtain rewards and share with their classmates.
We need a minimum of five students to at least have six players. We might have to cancel sections until an hour prior if we don't have the minimum number of students, at which point all parents will be refunded as well in cases in which the student needs to take a week off or any life situations send me a message prior or after and you will get a refund for that section.
Please prepare your learner for some common challenges of the game as the possibility that they might be eliminated first or last, or they could be accused of being the impostor, vote out or their peers might not share their same opinions and believes, but the learner will still be required to respond in a calm and respectful manner. The way that the game is a play in a regular format has differences in the context of our Debate Club which has a focus on exchanging ideas, communicating with respect and empathy, and demonstrating logical thinking when analyzing limited information.

Learning Goals

Students will practice their communication skills during the debate, and apply critical thinking skills to create strategies, use logic and create strategies to solve the game Mystery.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses Among Us on Android or IOS. Although the computer version is more reliable and the student will be less likely to be kicked out of the server. If the student is kicked out of the server, they will reunite the game on the next round as there is no way to stop a game once is already out of the lobby. It is important to have a good internet and for the student to have foundational conversation skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Daysi.
I have been passionate about teaching children since I was fourteen! I love teaching Spanish and Writing classes. Learning a new language is a way to enhance a student's vision of the world. I am a native Spanish- speaker, and it is my goal not only to teach students new knowledge but to instill in them a passion for learning. I also enjoy helping my students simplify the writing process and rediscover it as a profound way of communicating their interests and ideas.
As a volunteer teacher at a local church, I was able to design lessons that helped preschool children understand complex stories and learn about acceptance, communication, and collaboration for two years. I have also had the opportunity to tutor from elementary to college classes in a variety of subjects like language, finance, legal research, and reading strategies.
Upon receiving my bachelor's degree in Legal Studies from Hodges University, I have continued to develop my skills by completing a TESOL course and other teaching courses to develop my skills as a teacher.
My teaching philosophy is that students are in the front seat of their learning process, and the best way for them to learn new skills and grow is to make personal connections with the content presented in a variety of learning styles. I love to encourage my students to make mistakes and take on challenges because this creates a growth mindset that motivates them beyond only doing what they are good at but to keep on learning new things.
I enjoy walking my two dogs every day, and I also have a cat who thinks she is a dog!.
