In this ongoing course, students will have the chance to play and discuss a popular video game, Among Us using the Skeld and HQ maps.

Class experience

I have played Among Us for awhile myself. I have played it with friends and family in person, and we often talk about it afterwards.
Please make sure that your student is prepared for class and able to use both Zoom and Among Us at the same time, whether that be on one device or two. Without two devices, sometimes, the student cannot use both Zoom features and the game. If you switch between apps while playing Among Us, you will be signed/kicked out of the game by the app. Some students have devices that allow the use of both apps though.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
  • Among Us
Slightly violent images/themes are within the game. If you have concerns, I suggest doing an internet search of "Among Us parent ratings" to learn more. An example would be that the imposter has to kill off other players, so this game does require a little maturity. The rating is ages 10 and up, so learners under the age of 10 are unable to attend this class.

Among Us does ask for users to input their birthday in order to have safety features for users under the age of 13. Creating an account is not required, but users can create one. If the child is under the age of 13, they must have parental consent for the account, and Apple ID or Google Play information is used for account creation. Users can choose to do a guest account instead, which automatically will have safety features, such as only being able to use quick chat and not being able to alter their user name. In this class, we all have our settings set to quick chat only so that all the learners' accounts are able to join! The information accounts collect is username, IP address, Google Play or Apple ID account, and gameplay information. The application collects these things because users can report one another if they have inappropriate conduct.
