A semester long journey of presidential history – the men, their accomplishments, and how they each changed the United States. John Quincy Adams owned a pet alligator. George Washington’s favorite food was ice cream. Many of the great men who have led our country were just ordinary people before they took office. But these ordinary men have overcome extraordinary trials and done extraordinary things to shape America. The goals for our journey include: – Learning about the office of the president – the requirements to fill the chair and the powers they have – Learn the names of the Presidents in order through song – Learn about each president – their life and their accomplishments. We’ll especially focus on those accomplishments that affect us today. – Learn a basic outline of America’s history based on the trials each president faced during their term(s). Students will be given notebook pages for each president to complete while we learn. They will have opportunities for interaction, research, and reporting on things they learned to the class. Optional writing assignments will be given as well. A detailed syllabus is available at http://bit.ly/2AdyrOZ. I recognize that politics are a hot topic these days but this will not be the class for it. We’ll be focusing on history and people, not politics.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I believe that teachers who love teaching AND love learning themselves, teach children to love learning. As a homeschool mother of 4 (ages 7, 9, 13, and 16) my goals are to never stop learning myself and to teach my children to love the process of learning just as much as what they are learning. In the 8 years I've been homeschooling, I've taught at several different co-ops and a multitude of grades. I love working with the self directing students who love to jump right in to a new subject and the reluctant learners who need to understand how what they are learning applies to them to be motivated. I have a bachelors degree in computer information systems, have completed many additional classes in both history and literature, as well as workshops in teaching strategies for multiple ages and levels of learners.
