US Grade 6 - 9
The State of the Union Address has been given in-person 98 times. Join me as we look at the history and significance of this presidential speech. We'll understand when the address is given, how it is required by the US Constitution, and the message content presidents present to Congress and the American people. We'll also learn about various record holders, trivia facts and the ceremonial process surrounding the speech. Through the use of primary sources, Google Slides, a Classkick activity and a Kahoot trivia review game, we'll understand the history of the State of the Union Address and why it matters. Together, let's learn about how the past has shaped the present. No prior knowledge is required for this class.

Learning Goals

Learners will be able to explain why the State of the Union Address is given by the President of the United States.
Learners will make a connection between the US Constitution and the State of the Union Address. 
Learners will explore new facts about the ways the Annual Message has changed over time.
Learners will read and comprehend excerpts from past State of the Union Addresses.
Learners will demonstrate understanding through a final review game.
