I will assess students through questioning and observation in order to adapt instruction. I will also give the students the chance to report a fact they learned so I can assist them with further information if needed.Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 5
This class is part of a series of patriotic classes exploring American Symbols. Students will discover the history of the White House. The class will begin with a fun White House song. Students will learn a song about the White House as they view photos and learn through a PowerPoint slideshow. I will use questioning techniques and discussion as students interact with each other and with me. As we progress through the slideshow, I will teach the students American Sign Language for class vocabulary. Following the PowerPoint, they will review lesson sign language vocabulary and then do a step-by-step drawing of the White House. As we review, the students will draw, write, or tell one fact they learned. This class will be informative, engaging, and supportive in a joyful, non-partisan environment. Cameras will need to remain on throughout the class to facilitate interaction with each other and with me, and to allow me to assist in the students' sign language acquisition.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from University of Minnesota
My excitement about American symbols began with travels to Washington, DC. I loved stepping onto the exact spot Martin Luther King Jr. stood for his iconic I Have a Dream speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Walking through the White House thrilled me as I imagined the historic individuals who had walked its halls. I have enthusiastically taught many first graders about Washington, DC through books, music, and plays. I'm so excited to share American symbols with Outschool students!
My master's degree in special education focused on teaching deaf students. I taught deaf students for more than 10 years, and for part of my career, I was an educational interpreter. I care deeply about the Deaf Community and strive to stay true to American Sign Language in my teaching.
