Assessment
I will assess students through questioning and observation in order to adapt instruction. I will also give the students the chance to report a fact they learned so I can assist them with further information if needed.

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
This class is part of a series of patriotic classes exploring American Symbols. Students will discover the history of the United States Capitol Building including the original and revised designs, usage of the building - especially the two houses of Congress, parts of the building (dome, rotunda, crypt, visitors' center, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, former Supreme Courtroom, Statue of Freedom), and how it fits into the design of Washington, DC. The class will begin with a welcome song. Learners will then view photos through a PowerPoint slideshow. I will use questioning techniques and discussion as students interact with each other and with me. Following the PowerPoint, I will teach students American Sign Language for lesson vocabulary. They will create a step-by-step drawing of the U.S. Capitol Building they may share with the class. I will ask students to share one fact they learned. If there is enough time, I will share a high-quality 6-minute virtual field trip (YouTube, no ads) of the U.S. Capitol Building. This class will be informative, engaging, and supportive in a joyful, non-partisan environment.

My excitement about American symbols began with my travels to Washington, DC. I loved stepping onto the exact spot Martin Luther King Jr. stood for his iconic I Have a Dream speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Walking through the White House thrilled me as I imagined the historic individuals who had walked its halls. I have enthusiastically taught many learners about Washington, DC through books, music, and plays. I'm so excited to share my knowledge and experience with Outschool students!

I am a teacher certified to teach elementary grades 1-6 and deaf/HH students pre-K-12. I worked as an educational interpreter for several years and as an elementary teacher for many years. My education and work history have provided the skills to teach American Sign Language to learners on Outschool.
