Take on a new Summer hobby and learn American Sign Language with me! In this flex class, students will watch weekly lessons, record signs and phrases, receive feedback, and practice receptive skills by watching a "no-voice" video of the instructor. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How is this class conducted: Each week, the instructor will post three assignments: a full video lesson, a practice assignment, and a receptive video. The assignments can all be done at the convenience of your schedule though I do encourage students to do them weekly to not get behind. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lesson Schedule: Week 1: -The Alphabet and basic introductions Your child will learn the alphabet in Sign Language and proper palm orientation. We will also practice fingerspelling each of our names. Students will be encouraged to practice their ABC’s each day with a friend, family member, or sibling. Week 2: -Numbers 1-20 In our second week, your child will learn numbers 1-20 using proper hand parameters and learn why hand placement is so important when producing numbers. Learning Goals
Students will learn how to sign their ABC's, numbers, colors, emotions, multiple phrases, questions, animals, numbers, people, and family signs.
Learners will not only learn signs but will also have receptive practice lessons every week. Receptive skills are a crucial part of the language and will benefit their expressive skills as well. This is also a fun activity for learners. Many feel accomplished and proud they can understand the visual language!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I studied American Sign Language Interpreting in college and received my Bachelor's Degree through Northern Arizona University. I have been a Sign Language Interpreter in the K-12 setting for the past eight years. I am fluent and passionate about this beautiful language and Deaf culture. I also have experience in teaching. So I figured why not merge the two together!
