Hello, I am Samoan! I am passionate about sign language. I started learning the language over 25 years ago. I am a certified sign language interpreter, ASL teacher, and children’s author. I am a former Languages Other Than English (LOTE) High school teacher. I've worked as an interpreter in the education sector (collegiate and K-12) for over 12 years. I graduated college with a Certificate in American Sign Language Communication Skills, an Associate of Arts, a Bachelor of Science, and a Master of Education degree. I am currently attending school to obtain a doctorate of education degree in educational leadership. I fell in love with American Sign Language at the age of 9 years old after going to church with my mother. During the church service, I witnessed sign language interpreters translate the sermon. I was mesmerized by the flow of their hand-shapes. I told my mother that I wanted to learn sign language as well. My mother enrolled me in a sign language class at a local community college during a summer program. I continued to learn sign language throughout high school and college. I have previously volunteered to teach sign language at daycare centers and preschools. American Sign Language is a beautiful language with its own grammar and syntax. I hope to share my love and passion for sign language with others.
