Week 5: 12/1/2022
-Review Day
In our fifth and final week, we will review all that we have learned so far. Students will receive their final practice set to practice with.
I studied American Sign Language Interpreting in college and received my Bachelor's Degree through Northern Arizona University. I have been a sign language Interpreter in the K-12 setting for the past eight years. I am fluent and passionate about this beautiful language and Deaf culture. I also have experience teaching. So I figured why not merge the two together!
Students will be encouraged to practice at home with friends or family members. You can have your child demonstrate what they have learned by having them show you new signs from class. You can also ask questions and allow your child to answer in sign such as, "What is your favorite color?" Your student can answer in sign what their favorite color is.
A one-page handout will be provided for each class. They will be posted in the classroom section of the class. These are called, Practice Sets. Your child and the parent will be able to rewatch the videos to continue learning and practicing signs they have learned. Your child may be asked to share a video of themselves fingerspelling their name, sharing favorite colors, animals, books, and movies if they would like to. They will be encouraged to view other students to practice their receptive skills.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students will be able to watch a video of their teacher showing signs to follow along with.
I may use Google Slides to show a lesson. Your child will not need to access the slide. I will "share my screen" to show the slide.
