Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner Level
Embark on a captivating journey with our ASL Basics class, where learners delve into fundamental elements such as greetings, finger spelling, food, and animals. Whether your child is already familiar with these concepts or just starting to explore them, this class accommodates all levels of expertise.

Our teaching approach infuses a relaxed and engaging atmosphere, fostering an environment where children thrive. I leverage dynamic tools like games, music, and interactive activities to make learning a vibrant experience. While occasional slides enhance the visual aspect, using a computer or tablet for optimal participation is recommended – though a phone can suffice if necessary.

Encouraging interaction is at the heart of our methodology. Through Zoom sessions, learners connect, honing their ability to comprehend ASL when expressed by their peers. Break-out rooms provide a unique opportunity for individuals to delve deeper into personal connections and collectively practice signing.

The class unfolds seamlessly, beginning with a warm welcome and an entertaining icebreaker sign game. From exploring the ABCs to learning signs of the week, each session is a harmonious blend of education and enjoyment. Games and songs are carefully integrated to reinforce the weekly signs, ensuring a holistic and engaging learning experience.

Join us on a thematic exploration throughout the weeks, from Winter Signs to Time, Season, and Weather, and onwards to Holiday Words, Family and Pronouns, Opposites and Questions, Feelings and Emotions, Days and Times, Food, Animals, and an array of other captivating topics.

To further enrich the learning experience, a word list will be promptly posted on the classroom wall within 24 hours after each class. Embrace the journey of acquiring American Sign Language skills in an atmosphere that nurtures curiosity, interaction, and lasting connections.

I have been teaching American Sign Language for over 11 years. I worked in the Deaf community for ten years. I teach a music and movement program in my local area and teach American Sign at different Preschools in my local area. We use signs to the community as my daughter, Hard of Hearing. My teaching style is to make learning fun and keep learning.
