Class Experience

In this interactive, ongoing, online course, your child will learn vocabulary in American sign language. No sign language experience is required. Our classes will focus on getting your child comfortable using their hands and face to communicate in sign language. We will use flash cards, props, drawings, and various objects from our surroundings to learn signs.

Your learner will also be introduced to deaf culture. The teacher will teach the vocabulary, learners will copy the signs. All learners will be expected to have cameras open so teacher can see that they are making the correct hand shape and movement. Younger learners may need a parent to help with the hand shapes.

Each week the learners will be encouraged to teach someone else what they've learned. This will help to reinforce what they are learning.

I learned sign language from deaf friends in 1992 and have continued to be fully involved in the deaf community since. I am a sign language interpreter. I have taught my children sign language since birth. They have both been used to sign in videos for an international website. My son is an interpreter and my daughter is a sign language teacher and interpreter.
