Class Experience

In this interactive, ongoing, online course, your child will practice communicating and learn vocabulary in American Sign Language (ASL). Some sign language experience is recommended. If your learner is new to sign language I would encourage your learner participate in my flexible schedule sign language class (or a live vocabulary class) before beginning this weekly camp. Our classes will focus on getting your child comfortable using their hands and face to communicate in sign language. Students will learn to communicate with each other.

*Deaf, hard of hearing as well as hearing learners are welcome in this class.

Your learner will also be introduced to deaf culture. The teacher will teach vocabulary, learners will copy the signs. Learners will be communicating with each other and the teacher throughout the class. All learners will be expected to have cameras open so the teacher can see that they are making the correct hand shapes and movement.

After each class the learners will be encouraged to teach someone else what they've learned. This will help to reinforce what they are learning. Each class is independent and learners are free to come and go as schedules dictate.

Some things we will cover in the ongoing camp:

Week of September 17, 2023: We will play a 'Who am I?' animal game.
Week of September 24, 2023: We will discuss our favorite sports.
Week of October 1, 2023: Introduce yourself.
Week of October 8, 2023: Hand shape game.
Week of October 15, 2023: Tell me about your family.
Week of October 22, 2023: Food, food, food.
Week of October 29, 2023: What is your favorite thing to do?
Week of November 5, 2023: Hand shape game.

After successfully teaching my children from infancy the joys of American Sign Language to the point that they are now sign language teacher and interpreters I want to share my experience and love for teaching to other young learners. Join me for some fun and games in this sign language ongoing camp!
