Description

Class Experience

Each week students will learn new signs for each topic and practice using these signs in conversation. Students will learn about Deaf culture. Students will feel confident as they gain experience communicating in this beautiful language. Students can join or drop in any week that he/she chooses to learn a topic using these signs.
Thank you for enrolling in my class. I look forward to sharing my expertise in American Sign Language (ASL). For thirteen years, I was in Deaf Education PreK-12th grade and was an Interpreter for the Deaf. I have taught hearing students sign language, so that they were able to communicate with their fellow Deaf and Hard of Hearing peers. I taught my own children ASL and they thought it was very cool. My daughter, who is Dyslexic, felt it was an easier language to learn versus a spoken foreign language.

I fell in love with ASL and discovered it was a beautiful language that people find fascinating. If learning a new language has been difficult, I guarantee American Sign Language is the one for you to learn. In this class, we will learn together, be able to communicate in ASL, and most importantly have fun!

There is no homework, but you may find your child practicing or teaching you and your family American Sign Language!

The only request I have, but mandatory is to please review the American Sign Language Alphabet and numbers 1-10 sheet. I will email these and handouts for any participants that register.

A handout will be emailed when you sign up for a class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will ensure that students use the correct sign formation.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
If there is a better time to offer this course please let me know.
Students will receive an email with American Sign Language Alphabet and number sheet when signing up for a class.
Students will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
