Class Experience

You will learn the manual alphabet and many of these signs: numbers, people, animals, food, drinks, home, clothing, colors, sports, activities, thoughts, feelings. actions, general body parts, school, actions, calendar, weather, and more! Learners are welcome to ask how to sign some signs of their choice that have not been taught. You will also learn about the Deaf community, Deaf culture and Deaf history. At the end of this beginning course, learners will have learned 100s of signs and will be able to sign some basic sentences. Learners will have a rich understanding of the Deaf community, history and culture.
Homework will entail studying on your own time, so you can review everything that you have learned. If students are looking for academic credit, that can be discussed with the teacher.
 28 files available upon enrollment
As mentioned previously, learners will be needing the packet in files in printed form or on a separate device to view. DOCX and PDF provided. We will do one art project during week 2. For the project, learners will be needing paper--construction or colored paper works best, pen or pencil, scissors, glue or a glue stick.....and for AFTER class....a few pages of the ASL manual alphabet printed out ----from the files...
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
There will be nothing inappropriate shown or discussed in class.
We will be watching some YouTube videos of people signing and viewing some websites related to the subject matter. This information will be screen shared. Short children's books will be read by the teacher to introduce the learners to a variety of situations involving Deaf people, and Deaf culture. A packet is in the files that needs to be printed out prior to day one of class. An option is to use a separate device to view the packet contents. DOCX and PDF are provided, in case one doesn't work well.
