Class Experience

Students will be taught by a certified American Sign Language teacher, as well as, national certified teacher for Deaf children and is fluent in ASL. 

Students will learn the benefits of signing, basic tips for fingerspelling, the alphabet, numbers 1 - 10, spelling names, and fingerspelling practice.  Students will learn facial expressions, basic grammar, vocabulary, deaf culture information which is relative to the Deaf community.  

I will provide informational documents, and direct instruction on how to complete all of the above.  As well as, provide a link for continued practice which can be accessed at any time. 

Prior knowledge ASL is required, just come ready to learn and have fun!

Extension activities are provided for students which would consist of practicing the alphabet, conversations, and information we have learned in class. 

The learner progress will be evaluated through direct observation.  Please ensure you have a camera for this class.  We will also have short weekly check-ups which will be graded to judge progress and to cater the class to work on everyones needs as a whole.

Class 3: Manual Code for English, Classifiers
Class 4: Pidgin Signed English, Feelings Vocabulary
Class 5: Incorporation Signs and Shapes and Classifiers C, G, R 
Class 6:  Classifier V, Role Taking, Identify gender in ASL
Class 7: Lexicalized fingerspelling,  Practice Sentences and Stories
Class 8: Equal and Fair, Indexing on the non-dominant hand, and Classifier 4
Class 9: Comparison adjectives, Classifiers: Quantifiers
Class 10: Adverbs in ASL, and Conceptually Accurate Signs
Class 11: Review and/or Clarify action verbs and  Sociolinguistic Variation in Sign Language and Gallaudet, Thomas Hopkins 
Class 12:  Formal vs Casual Signing and Decontextualized signing
Class 13: Review and Practice, Additional Signs
Class 14: Total communication, Thomas Gallaudet
Class 15: Review and Discuss, Classifier, Self, Classifier B, Laurent Clerc
Class 16: Share Final Projects

Handouts will be provided by the teacher.  Students will be a given a assessment through canvas to complete weekly check-ups.

I am offering this class to assist hearing students to continue learning the basics in American Sign Language 2.  Not only will this bridge the gap between Deaf people and hearing people but it is also proven to increase IQ, as well as, many other benefits which we will go over.  I have extensive experience in teaching American Sign Language as a world language for all age ranges.
