Class Experience

Class will begin with a brief introduction explaining the scenario: Students must travel back in time to help find the location of the hidden Liberty Bell. A note stating the location has been torn and is missing four words. Students will visit four investigation sites to collect clues and crack the code. This escape room is an engaging way to review key facts from the war.

Each investigation site requires students to read a one-page informational passage. As directed, they will decode a message at each site. The decoding process involves proving reading comprehension. Each student will do their own work, at their own pace. However, we will all remain together in the main classroom Zoom meeting, so learners can talk about their discoveries with others if they would like to do so. Did you look behind that barrel? Can we move those sacks outside the general store?

A link will be provided to access the escape room individually after the teacher-led introduction. Students will have 45 minutes to decode the clues. If all students escape in fewer than 45 minutes, we'll use any remaining time to reflect on some important aspects of the war.

These one-page reading topics are included:

→ PATRIOTS OF THE WAR
→ CAUSES LEADING TO WAR
→ IMPORTANT MOMENTS IN THE WAR
→ KEY BATTLES IN THE WAR

Technology Note: It is probably best to use a laptop or desktop computer for this class. This escape involves using a drag & drop feature and sometimes tablets don't work well when trying to drag & drop.
Learning Goals
* Students will identify notable patriots in the war.
* Students will demonstrate comprehension by sequencing events leading to war.
