The cases the students will analyze involve topics related to the exercise of free speech on school campuses, the separation of church and state, and privacy rights. The specific amendments most pertinent to the discussions will be the first and fourth amendments. One of the cases does involve the mention of tobacco and drug paraphernalia found on the plaintiff. Another case involves the topic of prayer in public schools. The cases do not have anything involving topics involving race, reproductive rights, or LBGTQ issues.
We will refer to the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights in this class.
