Prior to class students will practice their observation and note-taking skills by completing a movie scavenger hunt while viewing the movie An American Girl Story - Melody 1963: Love Has to Win - Season 101 on Amazon. During class, students will use critical thinking skills to analyze historical Civil rights Movement references in the movie. Students will engage in class discussions during class to examine literary elements such as theme, symbolism, and character relationships. Students will also participate in a competition Kahoot about the movie and the historical time period of the Civil Rights Movement. No prior experience or knowledge needed.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their comprehension and critical thinking skills while learning about life in American during the Civil Rights Movement through the eyes of the American Girl Doll, Melody.

Prior to class students must participate in a movie scavenger hunt while viewing the movie An American Girl Story - Melody 1963: Love Has to Win - Season 101 on Amazon. We will discuss the scavenger hunt in class together. Students should have another device available to participate in a Kahoot trivia game.
