Learn to sew a sash with badges for your American Girl! Hello, I'm Ms. Astrid and I love AG dolls. I own several of the dolls and my favorite thing to do with them is to make accessories, especially for special events! Bring your doll to class and make her an extra-special custom-made sash with me! I'll demonstrate how to cut out the right shape and size, sew an adorable sash and then maybe add a few patches too. If you have never sewn before, that's ok because I will show you everything you need to know to get started. I use a combination of pre-recorded clips that we can pause, and a close-up camera on my desk that will show you all the steps in detail. We'll go at your pace and of course I'm here to help you if you run into any issues or have questions. Your doll's sash will be made of felt, which means it's easy to sew by hand and is sturdy on her body, giving it a nice shape that is similar to how yours looks when you're wearing your own sash! You can make your sash brown or green but bring extra colors of felt too, for the patches. During the class we will be cutting, sewing, gluing and making the sash of course, but we'll also get to know one another and talk about our dolls. Share your favorite AG book, your doll wishlist, or chat about the new Girl of the Year. I love playing trivia games and polls too, which we can do easily on Zoom while we are sewing and chatting. Parental Guidance
Learners may need assistance with sewing needles, scissors and pins. Some might prefer to use hot glue for the patches, which could also require some parental supervision.
Supply List
- Printable sewing pattern (posted in the classroom as an attachment prior to class start date) - Wool felt sheets (8"x12" or the size of printer paper) in various colors (brown or green for the sash, misc colors for the patches). You can find these locally at craft stores by the yard, or buy in assorted color packs like these: https://amzn.to/36ebYC0 - Hand needle and sewing thread - Sewing notions: scissors, pins, pincushion - Glue (white glue or hot glue)
