Description
Class Experience
During this once a week, five week course, students will read "Nanea - Growing Up with Aloha" by American Girl. This book takes place in Hawaii during World War II. We will talk about the plot as well as some history surrounding this era. Each week the students must have read 4 chapters to have a conversation about what Nanea has experienced, gone through, and felt. Each class we will explore the students' ideas of what it would have felt like to live during this time period and in...
Some World War II history, Hawaiian culture in 1941, empathizing with characters during this time period, character analysis, self analysis.
Each week students will be expected to complete 4 chapters of reading as well as a journal entry.
Journaling notebook (can be just a regular spiral bound notebook)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No assessment per se, however, it is expected that learners will contribute to class discussions.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
