In this one-time class, participants will learn all about several important American painters and paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries. Students will virtually visit some beautiful and interesting works of art in galleries and museums. They will also have a chance to create their own art in the style of the artists or creative writing inspired by the art. Some of the works we will look at are beautiful, but all represent important moments in our cultural history. Here are the titles...
Learners will see art they may not have seen before, and interpret it in light of the time, place and people who made it. They will also create their own art or creative writing with new understandings and styles.
I am a middle school and adult education teacher. I have taught a variety of subjects, but this course is inspired by a college class that has stayed with me for many years, as well as some continuing art education as an adult. It's also inspired by my lifelong love of art, art galleries and museums, and what they have to say to us. Whenever I travel, I have to see at least one art museum. I am excited to share that, adapted for younger learners.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The summative activity will be drawing or writing based on the day's learnings.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
