US Grade 8 - 11
The SAT/ACT essay differs tremendously from the College Application essay. In this session, I will teach you the elements scored for the SAT and ACT : reading comprehension, analysis and lines of reasoning, and writing convention, grammar, and fluidity. You will learn how the essay is scored and where you can add elaboration to earn a higher score. Please bring a rough draft of the essay that you write prior to the class. (Below I have attached a prompt with directions for you). If you do the writing prior, I will be able to give you specific feedback. I will first go over the formats of the essays and what will be required. I will help you look at areas in your draft and how they may be improved. I will give you pointers and good examples of what would score well for the prompt we are working with.
Learning Goals
You will leave the session with an undestanding of the three writing categories you will be scored in and knowledge of how to improve on them.
