"Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shootin' stars? I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now..."-- Bob McGrath Amelia Earhart is probably one of the most famous pilots in American History! Find out about this risk taking woman that paved the way for women to have more unconventional ("manly") jobs. Learn how her imagination and determination helped make her dreams a reality. Discover her many accomplishments, land and air. Hear her story and find out if her almost Century old mystery has been solved. No background necessary! In this class we will learn all about what inspired Amelia and how she helped the world through a short lecture. We will watch footage of her and compare it to modern actresses portraying her in various film roles and decide if the portrayals are accurate. We will play a quick round of Amelia Earhart or Amelia Bedelia to test students learning. Your homework assignment will be to write a story where you find Amelia Earhart alive and well. Where will it be? What stories will she tell? What questions will you ask her? This will be a one time class dedicated to Amelia Earhart. Other classes will follow in the same category. Look out for Anne Frank coming soon!!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in Southern California. I love working with students all around the World and of all different ages. I mainly teach classes that are Language Arts based (reading, writing, spelling, and grammar). I also teach about Historical figures, especially if I can tie them into Literature. I also love teaching about animals, and doing story time for the younger kids.
I have been teaching for over 15 years. I have taught in traditional school settings, charter schools, home schooled my own children, and taught online. I have a BA in English as well as a K-12 Teaching Credential. I am very passionate about helping people learn to love reading and writing. I also love to help people that need a little extra help with spelling and grammar. It makes me so proud and happy to have a student tell me how much they think they are improving or to get answers correct on something they missed before.
My approach to teaching is interactive and hands on. I want my students to learn while having fun. I ask a lot of comprehension questions, group work, pair work, and projects (depending on the class). I try to do as much of the work in class as possible so that kids can still be kids once they are done.
My background is in English but I love History and Science too (especially the experiments). It wouldn't be unusual in one of my classes to have to make something that just pops into my mind because it seems fun. I love animals, chocolate, and all things Disney!
