Amelia Bedelia Book Club: Fun Reading Comprehension Activities

Students will work on comprehension skills through discussion and questioning. 
Students will be able to understand the plot, setting and major and minor characters in the story. 
Students will show understanding of literal and figurative meanings through a graphic organizer. 
Students will make predictions based on the character's actions thoughts and feelings. 
Students will make connections to their own life and experiences. 

I am a certified elementary teacher and have taught phonics, reading, writing and math for many years. Before teaching 2nd grade, I tutored students in reading comprehension, decoding words, math and science after school and during the summer. I was also a Title 1 reading intervention specialist for grades kindergarten-3rd grade focusing on reading fluency and comprehension strategies. I have worked in a preschool and pre-k setting as well working on a variety of literacy skills. 

Students will need to read the book for the week of class prior to beginning class. 

25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
