This one-time class explores the life cycle and habitat of the arapaima gigas, the giant freshwater fish of the Amazon River. Learners will be introduced to one of the largest fish in the world and learn about how it lives in the largest river in the world. Learners will hear about how big the fish can grow and and distance the fish can swim. The class will explore the natural habitat of the arapaima and predict what might happen to the fish in the future. Learners will see maps and pictures of the Amazon River and have fun learning about this giant of a fish.

Parental Guidance
As with many plant and animal species of the Amazon, human caused deforestation is ruining natural habitat. The arapiama may become extinct and disappear forever caused by the actions of humans.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I am a veteran teacher of physical geography, plant and animal biomes, and earth science. This class will introduce the concept of deforestation and animal extinction but will not involve a detailed study.
